Recreational Land
Recreational Land
Food plots, hunting trails, ATV paths, shooting lanes, and view cuts. We shape recreational land so you can actually use it.
What this looks like on your land
Recreational land only pays off when you can reach it and use it every season. Legacy Land Care clears food plot edges, cuts hunting and ATV trails, opens shooting lanes, and reclaims overgrown pasture across Northwest Georgia. Owner John Mulkey grew up running cattle on a 100 acre farm outside Cave Spring, so working timbered, hilly, and creek-cut ground is not new territory. The CAT 275XE and forestry mulcher head clear selectively, so the cover and hardwoods you want to keep stay standing.
What's included
- Food plot site clearing and edge work down to bare, workable ground
- Hunting trail and access road cutting back to stands and back acreage
- ATV and UTV trail cutting, shaped and cleared for regular use
- Shooting lane clearing that keeps your stand locations honest
- Selective clearing that leaves mast-producing hardwoods and bedding cover standing
- Pond edge and creek access cleanup for foot, truck, or four-wheeler access
- Overgrown pasture and field reclamation for ground grown up since it was last bush hogged
- View cuts and selective thinning that leave the trees you want standing
Raised on Ground Like This
Owner John Mulkey grew up on a 100 acre cattle farm in Cave Spring, the kind of ground that teaches you how a property actually behaves: where the herd wears a trail, where the creek bottom stays wet longest, and where pasture wants to grow back up in briars the season after you stop bush hogging it. After service in the U.S. Air Force, he brought that background home and built Legacy Land Care around it.
That background is the lens we bring to recreational tracts. We have walked pasture, fence line, and timber edge on a working farm, not just run equipment on job sites, and it shows in how we read a property before the mulcher ever starts. It is also why we treat a hunting tract or a family farm with the same care we would want on our own ground: fully insured, owner-operated, and on site ourselves from the first walkthrough to the last pass.
Selective Clearing That Respects the Woods
Recreational land is not cleared the same way a building lot is cleared. The CAT 275XE runs a dedicated forestry mulcher head that lets us work selectively, opening shooting lanes, cutting food plot edges, and thinning access trails while leaving the mast-producing hardwoods and thick bedding cover that make a property worth hunting. The excavator handles the heavier work when a project needs it, from digging out a stubborn root ball to shaping a pond bank edge.
Mulching also leaves less behind than a bulldozer push pile or a burn pile does. There is no smoke, no diesel-soaked debris rotting in the corner of a field, and the ground looks like part of the woods again within days instead of sitting torn up for a season. That combination of precision and cleanup is why the mulcher, not a dozer, is our default tool on wooded recreational ground.
Access Trails, ATV Paths, and Roads to the Back Acreage
A lot of recreational ground goes unused simply because nobody can get to it. We cut and clear access trails and roads back to stands, food plots, and back acreage, and we cut dedicated ATV and UTV trails where a property needs a real path instead of a foot track. That includes reopening old logging roads and farm lanes that have grown shut over the years, which is common on tracts that have sat idle for a season or two.
The mulcher head shapes the trail surface as it clears, so you are left with a corridor you can actually drive, not a scraped rut that washes out the first hard rain. We run this work across Rome and the surrounding counties, Floyd, Bartow, Gordon, and Polk included, so distance to your back acreage is rarely the holdup.
Food Plots, Pasture, and Pond Edges
Food plot clearing is ground preparation, not agronomy. We clear the plot site and the surrounding edge down to bare, workable ground and leave seed selection, liming, and planting decisions to you or your seed dealer.
The same equipment opens up pasture that has grown up in cedar and briars since it was last bush hogged, restoring open ground for grazing, sight lines, or simply a property you can walk without fighting through brush. We also clean up pond edges and creek access points that have gone wild, so you can get a truck or a four-wheeler back down to the water instead of cutting your way in by hand. None of this work touches the pond itself; it is edge and access clearing, done with the same selective approach as the rest of the property.
Where this work comes up
Hunting and recreational ground is a real part of this area. Armuchee is wooded tracts and hunting land, and Rockmart holds the kind of mixed timber and open ground where trails and shooting lanes make a property usable.

What you are left with
- Trails, food plots, and shooting lanes you can actually reach and use
- Mature hardwoods and bedding cover preserved through selective clearing
- Overgrown pasture, fence lines, and pond edges reclaimed and usable again
- A property that works the way you pictured when you bought it
Frequently Asked Questions
For fall plots, get clearing and dirt work done by late summer so lime and seedbed prep can follow on schedule. For spring plots, winter clearing works well because the equipment runs easily on firm, dormant ground. We book both seasons, and earlier is always easier than later.
Yes. The mulcher cuts a clean corridor at whatever width you want and grinds the debris into the trail surface as it goes. No push piles in the woods, no dozer scars, and the mature trees on either side stay untouched.
Mulching leaves less scent and disturbance behind than a bulldozer push pile or a burn pile does. There is no smoke, no diesel-soaked debris rotting in a corner of the field, and the ground looks like part of the woods again within days instead of sitting torn up and bare for a season.
Yes. We cut dedicated ATV and UTV trails on hunting and recreational tracts, sized and routed the way you want them, not just a mulched line through the brush. The mulcher shapes the trail bed as it clears, so you are left with a rideable corridor instead of a rutted path that washes out.
All the time. Recreational tracts are exactly the kind of job we mobilize for across Northwest Georgia, and larger properties justify the drive well beyond it. Tell us the county and acreage and we will give you a straight answer on scheduling.

“Just 10 days after having met John he was in my yard with dirt and machinery, and those days included waiting on the weather some. John did a fantastic job; better than I had envisioned. I definitely WILL have him back for any future projects. ... now, if I could just get him to pull weeds.”

“We recently hired Legacy Land Care LLC for an erosion issue, 1/4 of property washed away, we also had drainage issues, and we couldn't be happier with the results! ... The crew was incredibly professional, arrived on time, and respected our home by cleaning up at the end of every workday.”
